Personal profile

Research interests

I joined Bond University in November 2010, having spent four years at the University of New South Wales as a sessional lecturer (teaching Advanced Legal Research and selected components of International Trade Law). My PhD thesis (completed in 2011) focussed on conducting a comprehensive analysis of international trade policy on global textiles and clothing trade.

I have a background in corporate law practice and I am primarily interested in international trade, business and investment law and policy. I am particularly interested in exploring the impact of globalisation on the trade policies of developing countries, and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

My past research has looked at use of trade remedies such as safeguards, anti-dumping measures and GATT Article XX exceptions. Under international investment law and international economic law in general, I have looked at the evolving private labour standards, inclusive and exclusive structuring of BRICS trade and investment relations, definition of 'national interest' under Australian investment laws and investment in renewable energy sector in Pakistan.

My current research direction is on exploring the nexus between export controls and the notion of indirect expropriation in international investment regulation. I have a wide ranging scope of research in the field of international trade, business and investment laws.

Statement for HDR students

I am happy to consider a wide variety of research proposals for higher degree research in international trade, business and investment laws (with the exception of international intellectual property and international tax laws).

Interested HDR applicants must particularly demonstrate the possible policy impact of their research in their proposals. I am particulary interested in supervising research focusing on trade-related aspects of developing countries and LDCs.

Please submit a detailed proposal, with brief methodology, on your proposed area of research (1500-2000 words).
