Biography

Associate Professor Tanya Dalziell teaches and researches in English and Literary Studies at the University of Western Australia. With Paul Genoni, she was the recipient of the 2019 Prime Minister's Literary Award for Non-Fiction for the book Half the Perfect World: Writers, Dreamesrs and Drifts on Hydra, 1955-1964 (2018), which is being made into a feature film. Her first monograph, Settler Romances and the Australian Girl (2005) was awarded the Walter McCrae Russell Award (2005) for the best book of Australian literary criticism. She’s also the author of over 50 academic essays including chapters for The Cambridge History of Australian Literature (2009); The Oxford History of the World Novel in English (2016); The Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Literature: Oceania (2017); The Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Literary Theory (2020). An article she co-wrote with Paul Genoni was selected for The Conversation Yearbook 2019 (Melbourne UP). With Julieanne Lamond, she co-edits the Australian Literary Studies journal and is a past co-editor (with Paul Genoni) of the Journal for the Association for the Study of Australian Literature. Her latest book is Gail Jones: Word, Image. Ethics (2020).

Teaching

I teach across a range of undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate areas including postcolonial literatures, gender theory, modernism, contemporary literatures, literary and cultural theory, and cinema studies.

I welcome the opportunity to work with PhD, MA and Honours candidates in the fields of twentieth-century literatures, modernism, Australian literature, postcolonial and transnational literatures, cinema and literary, gender and cultural theory.
