Loy Lising is a lecturer at the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University (MQ) and a Fellow with the Higher Education Academy. Prior to her MQ position, she was a lecturer and Program Director for the Master of Crosscultural Communication program at the Department of Linguistics at the University of Sydney.
In 2015, the Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP) awarded Loy the Andrew Gonzalez Distinguished Professorial Chair in Linguistics and Language Education.
Loy is a sociolinguist whose research interest focuses on the investigation of multilingual practices in multilingual ecologies employing both ethnographic and corpus approaches. In particular, she is interested in the linguistic behaviour of multilingual speakers: how they utilise the languages in their repertoire across various domains and the sociocultural factors that influence such linguistic behaviours.
Loy’s passion for understanding multilingual users’ nuanced linguistic behaviour is motivated in part by her desire to improve the learning experiences of her (multilingual) students in the Australian Higher Education context.
