Biography

Leigh Staas is the Associate Director for Engagement & Research Partnerships at Macquarie University’s Centre for Smart Green Cities. She uses her scientific background and stakeholder engagement skills to develop user-centred research projects that will create smarter, greener and liveable cities. 

Leigh has worked extensively between academia, local and state government and industry for over 12 years. She is an expert in developing and leading multidisciplinary research projects that solve real-world problems, particularly in the area of green infrastructure, climate change adaptation, biodiversity and smart technology. 

Leigh is the Program Manager for the Which Plant Where project, a collaboration between Macquarie University, Western Sydney University, the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and Hort Innovation. This national five year program is aligning science with industry experience to develop an online tool that will identify species that will be resilient to future climate change.
