Current mixed methods research project:
‘Absent voices’: Feasibility study exploring whole family experiences of living with parental refractory epilepsy to inform service development
Determining the role and responsibilities of the Australian Epilepsy Nurse (EN) in the management of epilepsy including refractory across primary and community care
Completed a PhD thesis by publication with the University of Sydney in September 2018. Five published papers make up this thesis. Thesis titled 'Exploring the whole family experience living with younger onset dementia from a social model perspective.'
Is a Physiotherapist, qualified in 1986 with extensive clinical experience working with people living with acute onset and degenerative neurological conditions in the community both in the UK and Australia. She is very interested in the lived experiences of people living with neurological impairments and their families.
Lived experiences and social impact of living with neurological impairments in the community from a personal, family member and whole family perspective. Understanding the needs of the whole family living with parental illness, especially with children and young people involved.
Exploring ways to use the social model of disability framework to improve societal, health care and social care understanding of living with impairments. Using principles of SMOD to create socially focused services and health interventions. Raising awareness of socially constructed disablement and what needs to be changed to support enablement.
Implementation science provides the strategies to promote co-created and co-produced crucial change within health care and improved well being. Translation of evidence, uptake of evidence, acquisition and dissemination.
Integrated models of care living with complex and chronic neurological conditions. Developing ways to improve integrated care for everyone to ensure no one is disadvantaged by fragmented care and non cross sector collaborations and practices.
