Julia Fortune is a PhD candidate in the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods (RIEL) under the supervision of Prof. Karen Gibb, Dr Edward Butler (AIMS) and Dr Mirjam Kaestli (CDU/Menzies School of Health Research). Her research aims to understand the importance of nutrient processing in Darwin Harbour, determine implications to water quality and inform measures necessary to maintain important ecosystems services provided by tropical marine environments. Julia currently works as a Senior Scientist with the Aquatic Health Unit of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Darwin. Julia previously worked in environmental management roles with industry prior to having positions in science communications, policy, planning and assessment roles with NTG. Julia holds a Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Melbourne and an MSc in Environmental Management from Victoria University of Technology.
