Personal profile

Research interests

I currently head the new Nutrition and Dietetics programs. As a leading nutrition and dietetics academic, and an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian, I have previously worked at the University of Queensland, Flinders University and Queensland University of Technology.

I have been internationally recognised in the areas of oncology nutrition, nutrition in older adults, nutrition screening and assessment. PhD students that I have supervised have won numerous research awards including: International Young Investigator; International Oral presentations, DAA Best of the Best; DAA Best New Presenter; and DAA Practice in Research Awards. In 2012, I received a DAA National Award of Merit for International Dietetic and Nutrition Terminology-related activities.

Previously, I have led the development, and contributed to several sets of Australian and International evidence-based guidelines leading to improved nutrition care.

My editorial roles include the Nutrition Section Editor for Current Oncology (international cancer journal) and Associated Editor for Nutrition and Dietetics. I am regularly asked to submit invited-journal articles and editorials, and present at conferences around the world.

Statement for HDR students

I supervise HDR students in my broad research program of interests including oncology nutrition, nutrition for older adults, managing malnutrition and developing evidence based nutrition guidelines for improving the care of patients.
