A/Prof. Edward Barin is a consultant cardiologist and head of the discipline of cardiology at MQ Health which comprises of Macquarie University Hospital and outpatient clinics and is Senior VMO in the department of cardiology and the department of medicine, Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. Dr Barin teaches in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University and its medical school. He also consults at North Shore Private Hospital, RNS Hospital and Ryde Hospital. His clinical and research interests include heart arrhythmias, implanted devices, hypertension, vascular imaging and arterial analysis techniques.
Having graduated with honours from the University of Sydney in 1979, Dr Barin was a fellow of the National Heart Foundation of Australia between 1985 and 1987, and undertook postgraduate studies in London, England. He holds postgraduate qualifications in Clinical Epidemiology from Sydney University and has been Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Information Technology, University of Technology Sydney. His recent published research has been in J Hypertension, JMRI, J Applied Physiology and Heart Lung and Circulation. A Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Dr Barin is also a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, a recipient of the Ralph Reader Investigator's Prize and Member of the US and European Heart Rhythm Societies.
In his spare time, he explores seaside walks with his wife and reads travel books.
