Dr Chrissy Imai has a background in infectious disease epidemiology. She originally researched on environmental impacts on infectious disease in collaboration with research institutes and intragovernmental organizations in Asia, Africa, and Europe. She was a recipient of the national grant and fellowship in Japan (the Doctoral Research Fellowship of JSPS) during her PhD.

In 2014, she also received the Endeavor Research Fellowship of the Australian Award to undertake researches as a visiting researcher in Queensland University of Technology. The opportunity subsequently led her to serve as a Research Fellow in QUT after the fellowship for infectious disease studies within healthcare system. She researched on immunization among healthcare workers, characteristics of hospital admissions for infectious disease in Australia, and antibiotic usage prior to joining the Centre for Health System and Safety Research. Her focus today is infectious disease and healthcare system with an interest in knowledge translation into practice and advocacy.
