Dr Andrew Burke is a Lecturer at Macquarie Law School. He completed a BSc (Environmental Resource Management) LLB at Macquarie University and a subsequent LLM at the University of Sydney, prior to undertaking his PhD at Macquarie on the topic of the sentencing of environmental crimes. Andrew is a former Director of EDO NSW, a specialist environmental legal centre. Prior to joining Macquarie Law School, Andrew was a solicitor in private practice specialising in criminal defence.

Andrew's research specialisation is the sentencing of environmental crimes and the question of how to shape sentencing to the unique characteristics of this form of crime. Recent publications consider practice in the Land and Environment Court of NSW, a world-leader in environmental sentencing developments. He is available to supervise HDR theses on criminal law, and has current PhD and MRes students in this field.
