Profile Information

The School of Dentistry and Health Sciences has been created to draw together a number of cognate areas of the health professions that will promote new multidisciplinary approaches to clinical practice, education and health science research. The Health Science disciplines of the School that have been established for some years in the University have already been pursuing significant research agendas. These activities are particularly in the fields of: Diagnostic imaging Radiation physics Inter-professional education Healthcare delivery The School intends building on this base with a major push in the areas of dentistry and oral health. This will concentrate on the molecular aspects of oral and systemic disease, clinical aspects of auto-immune diseases, biomaterials science and healthcare access and delivery of services in rural/remote/indigenous communities. The other focus from the School perspective will be to develop research interests around the combination of disciplines of the School, e.g. dental imaging, links between nutrition and oral and systemic health and team approaches to disease prevention.
